In August 2004, Maestro Vladimir Ashkenazy conducted Rachmaninov`s Symphony No. 2 for the Final Concert of the Festival “Musikalischer Sommer” numbering some 40 concerts which aspired to present more than merely the exceptional performance of a masterpiece: the coincidence of time, place and participants (both audience and musicians).
